A Texas Summer

This posts is obviously over-due, but where to begin?! It has  been an amazing summer so far and it’s flying by. I have so many mixed emotions. I feel blessed to finally experience living not only outside of my hometown for the first time but outside of my home state as well! Texas is a blast, but I’m definitely missing Kansas. But they’re not kidding about it being it’s own country.

Things I’ve learned about Texas so far:

  • Turn signals are optional
  • If you’re not driving 10 mph over the speed limit you’re slowing down traffic
  • You can make a one stop shop at a gas station to get everything you need, including groceries via Buc-ee’s
  • Everything really is bigger in Texas (again, Buc-ee’s) #gasstationfordaysBuc-ee's
  • In a typical neighborhood, you can stand between two side-by-side houses and touch them both at the same time (what happened to having a yard, or privacy for that matter?!)
  • Boots. Everywhere.
  • Top 40 radio stations play the Top 10 over and over and over and over (variety please?)

I’m sure there’s more I’ve noticed but that’s what comes to mind for now. On to life as an intern! It’s interesting and not so interesting. See, I have projects… but they’re at a stand still a lot. I feel like they weren’t really prepared to have interns–at least in my department. There’s no director currently so I report to a couple managers who are way too busy trying to be managers and filling in for the director to have time for me. And I have to present what I worked on all summer and have no completed projects yet. 3 more weeks….

The plus side is, since there’s no director, I get the director’s office! Movin’ on up!

There are 12 interns so it has been awesome getting to know all of them and making friends. I’m also rooming with one of the interns who just so happens to be from my school as well! We had never met before this internship.

The interns decided to go on a road trip down to New Braunfels one weekend to float on the river. Floating on a river is sooo much fun. Just remember to wear sunscreen! Apparently I thought my shins didn’t need any because mine ended up lobster red and there were visible finger lines on my knees where I stopped applying the sunscreen. Whoops.

Overall, it’s been a good experience but I’m definitely missing Kansas, my beau Daniel, and all my friends and family back home! You don’t know what you have until it’s gone.

I have lots more to update on, especially my workout regime which has been very sporadic lately, but I just thought I’d update on my life and why I’ve been MIA for a while. It’s mostly been because I haven’t had internet for half the time and the other being that my macbook needed a new battery AND a new charger so I wasn’t able to turn it on for a while. But I’ve also been busy making memories and learning my job.

Expect more to come in the next couple days! It feels good to be back writing. Since my sister’s big fat Korean wedding is at the end of this month I need to kick my booty into high gear and start working out so I can be sure to look good for the photos! :p

One Year Blogiversary!

Today marks the one year anniversary of Health My Lifestyle! I can’t believe it has already been a year. So much has happened! Unfortunately, I haven’t been keeping up with it as much as I had planned–it’s been a while since I last posted. I am doing great down in Texas with my internship but it is definitely keeping me busy. Luckily, it’s only a 4-day work week! Hurray for holidays! This weekend I plan to make a big post of updates and my progress, or lack there of. So get excited for it!
