Taking Care of Business

I realized something, the other day I completely forgot to update about my new goals for myself after mentioning my last goals a couple weeks ago. So my new goal is to reach 120 lbs by New Years. That gives me 5 weeks, though technically I started this goal right after my last one ended on Halloween, which gave me over 8 weeks.  Any progress? Not really. Here’s what has been happening:

I went running for 2 miles on Friday, 3 miles on Saturday, and last night I did 1.5 hours of yoga with the P90X video. Before doing all this a couple weeks ago I was down to 123.5 lbs, but this morning I’m now 126 lbs. Perhaps I’ve been eating more which is causing the weight increase (definitely possible). Or maybe it’s the muscles I’m building? Either way, I think I’m going to revert back to keeping track of my calories just so I can better assess what’s happening and stay on track more. After all, the holidays are coming! Eeek! I will be trying my hardest to follow my tips on how to indulge wisely on Thanksgiving.  I might do a side-by-side comparison of the calories I eat using the tips compared to what they would be if I don’t follow the tips. Should be interesting to see how many calories you can save!

So here’s Sunday’s meals:

Meal Food Calories
Breakfast Eggs, bacon, ham, and peppers 200
Snack Guac and Beer Dip samples at Hyvee 150
Lunch Turkey Dog with bun and ketchup 200
Sun chips (a lot) 400
Dinner Chipotle Vegetarian burrito bowl (half) 350
Drinks Beer 400
Total   1700

Looks like overeating could be the culprit of my increased weight lately. On Sunday Daniel and I went with some friends to the Chief’s game in Kansas City. We had to tailgate of course which is where all that chip consumption happened. Plus the beer. It was so much fun though!

Arrowhead Stadium

It was a little chilly but I had four layers on! Do we look cold? Haha don’t mind Daniel not looking at the camera!

Daniel and I at Arrowhead

I look like a hunchback with all of my layers. But the only things cold were my toes!

Daniel and I at arrowhead

Sadly, the Chiefs lost to the Chargers 38-41. Definitely a good game though!

And here’s Monday’s meals:

Meal Food Calories
Breakfast 3 eggs, southwest style with peppers 290
2 pieces of bacon 80
1 slice of french toast 160
1 pancake 70
syrup 50
Strawberries, cantalope, honeydew melon, pineapple 50
Half a biscuit with gravy 65
Lunch Left over tempura vegetables and rice 270
Dinner Chobani Greek Yogurt Key Lime Crumble 180
Chocolate Shakeology shake with banana and almond milk 280
Total   1495

After the game we went to the Prairie Band Casino north of Topeka for the night to warm up in their awesome outdoor jacuzzi. No gambling this time, just relaxing. Then we took advantage of their breakfast buffet in the morning, hence my long list of breakfast items. It was delicious!  Surprisingly I took no food photos but you probably don’t want to see a plate full of pancake, french toast and bacon anyway, right?

Now it’s time to get organize over this fall break. I can’t believe it’s already Tuesday! Daniel and I plan to clean the apartment and maybe get some homework done so we can enjoy the rest of the break without worrying about it. Oh, and I plan to decorate for the holidays! I’m going to set up a small tree and hang some lights but I’m not sure what else to do. Any suggestions?

Have a great Tuesday!

It’s a New Blog!

Ok, it’s not a new blog. But it is a new location. As in, I’ve switched over to the self-hosted world! So, hopefully I don’t lose all of my wonderful followers. WordPress is very vague on how my followers from wordpress.com can view my new wordpress.org site. But, if you’re reading this and want to continue to follow me, just to be safe, click my new follow button on the right side of the screen under the search bar. You can follow in your favorite reader or by email! Fresh new posts delivered to your inbox. What’s not to love?

Alrighty, now for the fun stuff. I owe you all an update because it has passed my deadline of my last goal by 11 days! Whoops! So, back in August I made a new goal to lose 10 more pounds by Halloween in about 10 weeks to get me down to 120 lbs. Well ladies and gents, I’m only at 124.6 lbs. However, I’ve at least finally reached my original goal I made: to lose 10 lbs from 135 to 125. It has been a slower process than I was expecting, but my weight hasn’t been jumping around so I’d say that it’s a solid steady weight loss. That’s a little over 0.5lb/week weight loss. I was initially wanting 1.5lb/week, but I’ll take what I can get.

I’ve never been one to really limit myself to indulgences, which I think partly contributes to my slow weight loss. I have been reducing the amount of sweets I eat but I still allow a piece or two of dark chocolate Toblerone when I’m craving it. It keeps my bigger cravings in check. I also have been slacking when it comes to working out, especially this past month. The good news is: I finally went running! Daniel and I ran two miles around the park. It wasn’t too bad, probably could have gone a third mile, but we decided to take it easy. My legs were surprisingly sore the next day! They haven’t been worked in a while, poor things. I’m hoping to get back into a regular workout routine. Ok “back into” may be stretching it, I’ve never had a regular workout routine! HA! But I’m hoping to start one!

P90x will happen I hope. We just need to return our pull up bar for something that works in our apartment (our doors are too wide!). But for now, running is definitely something I want to start doing again. I want to build back up that endurance!

Update on the new shoes: they are great! Very comfortable, but I’ve decided I do need my inserts. I could tell my feet were rolling in some. But man, I was lookin’ fly! Check out my annoyingly matchy running outfit:

As I mentioned the other day, I bought a tank top with my shoes because they matched and new workout gear always gets me motivated. Well, while my best friend, Charissa, was in town, she decided to give me an early Christmas present: matching shorts (thanks girl!!). They actually match almost perfectly to my new shoes that I’d swear Brooks made them! But it’s actually the brand MPG. They are SO comfortable! Also, note that the head band matches my ensemble as well. No shame.

After running on Saturday, Daniel and I had tickets to the International Food Festival put on by the International Coordinating Council at K-State. The food is always AMAZING and this year did not disappoint.

I wish I could tell you what all of this is but I was too excited to eat it to thoroughly read what and where it came from. From what I can remember there was food from Thailand, China, Spain, Nepal, and Mexico. I wish I could remember the rest but I can attest that everything was delicious! The left cup is full of soup from Mexico with beef and beans, and the right cup has Thai iced tea. It’s black tea and spices with milk–one of my fave teas! It’s up there with Chai. Chai and Thai for the win!

After dinner I spent one last time with Charissa in Aggieville (the bar district). Here’s a photo from the photographer who documents the happenings in the Ville. Left to right: Me, Charissa, Charissa’s hubby Jake!

party in the ville

It was a fun night but unfortunately they couldn’t stay out too late because they had a 12 hour drive back to NM the next day. But Charissa and I also went out on Friday night so that made up for it. We attempted to get several photos with both Jake AND Daniel operating the camera, and only one turned out good! Haha.

At least we have the memories! Definitely glad I got to spend a week with her! We may or may not have eaten shamelessly at our favorite restaurants while she was here. Some meals included veggies, so I’d say that’s a win.

I really need to be on here more often. I’ve noticed that without blogging everyday, I feel less accountable and more inclined to eat what I want and not workout. I need you back in my life, blogosphere! So you’ll be seeing me around a lot more again =) I know, I’m excited too! Goodnight!

My Sloppy Seconds

Keeping to my goals, I ran 3.5 miles yesterday! It was tough and hot so on the last mile Daniel and I decided to walk and talk. Then later in the evening we decided to go on another walk around town and went about 4 miles!

Meal Food Calories
Breakfast Cereal 80
  Almond milk 15
  Egg 100
Lunch Fruit Smoothie 190
Left over Mango Grilled Chicken Wrap 240
Dessert Left over Cheesecake 300
Dinner Tomato Basil Wontons 192
Left over Fajita Taco Salad 180
Snack Fruit 15
Total   1312

After the run we had left overs (the mango grilled chicken wrap) and a fruit smoothie. We were running out of supplies so I added a banana, greek yogurt, orange juice, blueberries, strawberries, and pineapple. Ok that doesn’t sound like we’re running out but we were out of almond milk, spinach, and frozen fruit. I added 5 ice cubes to fill it out more and make it nice and cold.

fruit smoothie

We had all that fruit only because my mom gave us a fruit platter that she forgotten to serve on saturday. Yummy fruit!

For dinner we had my left overs from saturday, the Fajita Taco Salad. Then we had all the ingredients for some Tomato Basil Wontons so of course we had to make those. I realize we eat those a lot… They’re just so good! I’m addicted. Is there a Tomato-Basil-Wonton-Eaters Anonymous? If so, you can’t make me go!

So I think I owe you a little weigh-in — it’s been over a week! Ok, so last time I was 132.8 on July 30th.  I’m down to 131.8 lbs. I’ll take it! That’s three pounds down. Not speedy but it’s definitely a healthy weight loss. I wish it was faster. I wanted to be down 10 lbs by the time school started August 26th. I’m not sure I’ll make it. That does make me a little disappointed. I’ve been making some unhealthy decisions and not working out enough. I hope in the next two weeks I can stay on track so I can see some more improvement. It’d be nice to get over that 5 lb mark!

Slow and Steady Wins The Race

So I owe you another weigh in. Today I’m at 132.8. That’s almost two pounds down since I started this blog weighing at 134.6. That’s only 0.5 lb per week weight loss. Not exactly as fast as I would like, but at least I’m seeing some kind of result. I also only weigh myself in the morning so I can be consistent and see change.  Your weight fluctuates during the day depending on food and drink intake so it’s best to weigh in the morning before you’ve had anything to eat or drink (also it’s usually less than during the day so that always makes me feel better!).

A combination of consuming less calories and working out is the best recipe for results but we all know I’ve been slacking in both departments. I have new goals for this week to make sure once I hit my calorie mark at 1200 that I don’t exceed it, and I hope to make more of an effort to workout. Daniel has been failing at training me so it’s all his fault! Ok, I know I should be the one making the effort, not him (but I’ll blame him just a little, ha).

Here’s what all I ate yesterday:

Meal Food Calories
Breakfast Laughing Cow cheese wedge with whole wheat tortilla 180
Lunch Salad Bar 324
Dinner Fried chicken wing and drumstick 206
Mashed potatoes and white gravy 140
Fried okra 86
2nd Dinner Left over Frickdella with brown rice 170
Steamed veggies 75
Total 1181

We’ve been doing a lot of moving so my parent’s made dinner simple by picking up some chicken and sides from the grocery store. Not the healthiest but definitely a nice change for once. I rarely eat fried chicken and mashed potatoes. It was so good!

fried chicken, mashed potatoes, okra

We have officially completely moved out of the old apartment now. FIVE more days until we can move into our next place! I’m soooo excited! Can you tell?

Abs of Steel

I’m actually doing better when it comes to staying under my calories! My weigh-in hasn’t been showing it too much though. I am at 133.6 lb now. Slowly but surely.  If I stayed under my calories every day and worked out I’d probably see faster results.

Meal Food Calories
Breakfast Smoothie 180
Lunch Planet Sub veggie grinder 455
Dinner Rice & veggies 250
Snack Tortilla w/ cheese wedge & chicken salad 240
Dessert Dark Chocolate Toblerone (1 piece) 40
Total 1125

The smoothie was my usual with lots of blueberries and some orange juice added in. I was also out of greek yogurt so I added some protein powder. I took it to go. Tasty!

The smoothie didn’t really fill me so by lunch I was starving. I went to Planet Sub and got the Veggie Grinder. I rarely go to Planet Sub, but they always have something that sounds good on the menu. It was full of veggies with mozzarella and pizza sauce. It was like a pizza in sandwich form! Ingenious!

Veggie Grinder

For dinner I had Daniel back to cook me something. Life is good again 🙂

He started with brown rice and added a can of green beans, a can of corn, some fresh spinach, yellow pepper, and pesto. We sprinkled a little parmesan on top. It may sound odd but it was good! We’re trying to clean out our cabinets now for the move. We have a surprising amount of corn and green beans. They will probably be apart of our meals for the rest of the week.

So here’s the last installment in the Five Day Workout:

Health My Lifestyle's 5 Day Workout Plan Day 5

It really targets the abdominals. You will feel a burn! So with these five workouts you will see some results within a couple weeks. Last summer I felt a lot stronger after doing these exercises on a regular basis. And I lost ten pounds! I also combined them with a 20-30 minute cardio workout (typically intervals on the treadmill between walking and running). I did them Monday-Friday but you can do them continuous with a one day break each week.

I took 3 days off from working out but I can assure you I did lots of working out today! It was a sweaty workout too. I’ll be back tomorrow with the details. What kind of workouts do you like to do to feel the burn? Cardio? Spinning? Water aerobics? I wanna hear it!

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Errr… I mean Breakfast at Rachel’s. There’s no fancy jewelry, dresses, or Audrey Hepburn sadly, but there is breakfast in bed! That’s right, my handsome man made me breakfast while I slept in.  Pancakes with strawberries and bananas and scrambled eggs. And no, the pancakes weren’t from a mix. That’s right, he had to go to the store and get the ingredients to make it from scratch. What a guy. He found the recipe at allrecipes.com.  They’re called Good Old Fashioned Pancakes. They were so fluffy and, well, good! I’ve also just now decided that I cannot consume pancakes unless there is fruit cooked into them. Yum!

How could I even think about working out after a meal like that? Ok, I was lazy. But I was productive in other aspects like working on re-staining those chairs I had mentioned yesterday.  I have a wood table with 4 wood chairs that have fabric/padding on the seat. I inherited them from my cousins who were getting a newer set. It has done me well the last 5 years but it’s time for an update.  So I spent a good portion of the evening sanding and staining a couple of the chairs with Daniel’s help. In fact, I was just working on them some more before I came inside to blog.

After working on the chairs last night we made a delicious dinner with pollock and rice.  We cooked the pollock on the stove for a few minutes adding some greek rub and lemon pepper and then covered them with pesto and parmesan and baked them for another 5 minutes.  They broke apart as I put them on my plate so that’s why they’re all crumbly looking.

We served them with a fabulous side salad (finally getting those fresh veggies!).  The salad included a bed of spinach with green peppers, cucumbers, bacon bits, craisins, and some light raspberry vinaigrette on top.

Here’s the full calorie break-down from yesterday:

Meal Food Calories
Breakfast Strawberry/banana pancakes 175
Eggs 200
Sugar free syrup 50
Lunch Left over Noodles & Co. 150
Snack Graham crackers 120
Dinner Pollock with pesto, parmesan 290
Rice 100
Salad 165
Total 1250

Not too shabby! I mean, with all that sanding I did I’m sure that makes up for the 50 calories I went over, right? Yeah, we’ll go with that.

Ok, here’s the defining moment of whether this new lifestyle has helped me get into shape. My current weight is…..134.2. Whomp whomp. Not much considering my starting weight was 134.6. It’s a little disappointing but I’m staying confident. This is all about being healthy and happy.  I already feel more energetic and more awake in the mornings from when I first started. That is definitely worth it.

Now for my measurements. They were all taken at the widest point.

Measurements Inches
Neck 13
Waist 30
Love handles 36.5
Hips 39
Right thigh 23.5
Left thigh 23.5
Right calf 14.5
Left calf 14.5

That’s right, I’m measuring my love handles. They have always been a troublesome spot for me even back when I was dancing a lot. This time they’re going down! Literally, that measurement is going down (I hope!).

Has anyone else seen some progress in a new diet/workout/lifestyle you’ve started? Let me know what has been working for you!
