Instructions

  • Measure one teaspoon of matcha powder into a matcha bowl (chawan) or small bowl.
    1 teaspoon matcha powder
  • Heat water to approximately 175°F (80°C). Pour about 2-3 ounces (70-100ml) of hot water into the bowl. Reserve the rest of the hot water for later.
    8 ounces hot water
  • Using a matcha bamboo whisk, briskly whisk in a W-shaped motion or zigzag pattern, ensuring you cover the entire surface until a frothy layer forms for about 20-30 seconds.
  • Once you have a good foam layer, add the rest of the hot water and whisk again to combine.
  • Pour your matcha into a cup or mug and enjoy!

Notes

Make it a latte: Instead of adding the rest of the water, use steamed milk into to create a matcha latte.
