Do you ever scramble when dinner time rolls around to throw a meal together? Sometimes life gets in the way and we can’t always make a balanced meal with sides and all.
That’s where my love for air fryers comes in. They make it so easy to roast, bake, or fry in a matter of minutes. This is especially beneficial in the summertime when I don’t have to wait to heat up a whole oven.
You’re going to love how easy air frying asparagus can be! This simple but delicious side has become our go-to so that we always have something green on our plate even when we’re busy.
Ingredients
This might be the easiest recipe ever. Here’s everything you need:
- bundle of asparagus
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- salt and black pepper to taste
Additional seasoning suggestions:
- smoked paprika for a smoky flavor
- squeeze of lemon juice on top after cooking
- Italian seasoning
- wrap with this carrot bacon for a healthier version of traditional bacon-wrapped asparagus (yum!)
How to make asparagus in the air fryer
Rinse asparagus and trim off the woody ends (about 1 inch).
Preheat air fryer to 375F.
In a large bowl toss the asparagus with seasonings to evenly coat.
Spread out seasoned asparagus in air fryer basket. If you have a smaller basket you may need to divid the asparagus into two batches.
Cook asparagus for 4-5 minutes.
Serve alongside these vegan steaks for a comforting and delicious meal!
Cooking tip
If your air fryer allows for it, add a little water (just 1 tablespoon) into the bottom of the air fryer before cooking. The water helps the asparagus cook more evenly and prevents it fry drying out too much.
How to store
Store air fried asparagus in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. Reheat in the air fryer to crisp it back up or heat in microwave as desired.
Is air fried asparagus healthy?
Yes! Asparagus boasts 2.3g fiber, 2.7 protein, and is high in folate, vitamin A and vitamin K (source). With an air fryer you can also keep it oil free which keeps it lower calories and in the whole food category since oil is a processed ingredient stripped of most its nutrients.
