I love bubble teas, but they can get pricey. So, instead, I’ve been experimenting with making my own at home. Some of my favorites include mango bubble tea, matcha bubble tea, and a sweet strawberry bubble tea. It’s so fun to create your own at home—and it’s surprisingly easy to make too!

This banana milk bubble tea version is the perfect addition to this lineup. With just a few simple ingredients, you can whip up this dairy-free, plant-based beverage in minutes.

What is banana milk?

Banana milk is a popular Korean drink found today in most asian grocers like H-Mart. Even my small-town Korean grocery store had it!

Binggrae first launched banana milk in the 1970s to encourage milk consumption in South Korea. Bananas at the time were considered a luxury in Korea, so the banana-flavored milk allowed people to enjoy the taste at a more affordable price. Now, you can find it available worldwide!

It is sweet and creamy and tastes almost like a banana milkshake. I loved it so much that I recreated my own homemade banana milk, which is used as the base in this banana boba recipe.

Why you’ll love this banana milk boba

  • Naturally Sweet & Dairy-Free – No need for refined sugar or dairy! Ripe bananas and maple syrup provide just the right amount of sweetness in this banana boba.
  • Easy to Make – This recipe takes only 10 minutes from start to finish.
  • Creamy & Refreshing – Blended banana milk gives a rich, creamy texture, while ice keeps it cool and refreshing.
  • Fun & Chewy Boba Pearls – Tapioca pearls add a delightful chewiness that makes every sip fun.
  • Affordable – No need to buy expensive boba teas at a cafe when you can easily make your own at home!

Ingredients

You only need a handful of easy-to-find ingredients to make this banana boba tea recipe. If you’re used to making boba tea, you probably already have everything you need, which is why I love that when the craving strikes, I can throw this together in no time! Here’s what you’ll need:

Gathered ingredients for this banana boba recipe with labels.
  • Bananas – Use ripe bananas for natural sweetness and a creamy texture. Frozen bananas can make the drink even thicker and colder.
  • Oat Milk – I used unsweetened oat milk, which adds a subtle creaminess. Soy milk works well, too. You can also use almond milk, but it will result in a thinner consistency.
  • Maple Syrup or Agave – Adds a little extra sweetness to enhance the banana’s natural sugars and gives it a slight caramel-like flavor.
  • Vanilla Extract – Rounds out the flavor to help mimic the classic Binggrae banana milk flavor!
  • Ground Cinnamon – Just a dash complements the sweetness with a hint of spice.
  • Salt – A tiny pinch balances and enhances the flavors. Seems weird, but trust me, it works!

You can also add tea if you’d like. Follow this jasmine milk tea recipe, but instead of milk, use the banana milk!
