We use our air fryer daily and have found that we no longer need a toaster or toaster oven. An air fryer does everything a toaster can and more! The hot air evenly circulates like a convection oven to create the best crispy waffles for a delicious hot breakfast!

We’ve even make toast in the air fryer!

Frozen waffles are one of our go-to quick breakfast items when we’re short on time or have a particularly busy morning. They become perfectly toasted in the air fryer and we can make more in less time than we could with our toaster.

Why make frozen waffles in the air fryer:

  • Make more waffles at once
  • Perfectly toasted
  • Quick and easy breakfast, brunch or even dinner! These air fryer waffles are great any time of day!
  • Easy to customize with different favorite toppings
  • No preheating necessary
  • Ready in 5 minutes!

How to make frozen waffles in the air fryer

Follow these simple steps to see the best way to make these air fryer waffles. A printable recipe card is available below.

There is no preheating of the air fryer necessary. Think of it like a toaster, you don’t preheat your toaster, do you?

Simply place your frozen waffles in the air fryer basket or air fryer tray (depending on the type of air fryer you have) in a single layer. Do not stack or overlap the waffles. This ensures they cook evenly.

Cook at 360F for 3 minutes, then flip the waffles over and continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until desired crispiness is reached.

Frozen waffles that have been cooked, sitting in an air fryer basket.

If you are making consecutive batches, reduce the time by a minute or two as the air fryer will already be heated which will cause the frozen waffles to cook even faster in the following batches.

You may need to adjust your cooking time depending on your air fryer model and the thickness of the waffles. I use this air fryer and 5 minutes is perfect.

Expert Tips

The key is to not let them thaw first. Take the frozen waffles directly from your freezer straight to the air fryer basket or rack. Allowing them to thaw can result in soggy waffles that don’t crisp up well.

Don’t overlap the frozen waffles. This will cause the spots overlapping to cook slower and unevenly.

Storage

I recommend cooking only what you plan on eating that day but if you happen to have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a few days.

Reheat in the air fryer for a couple minutes. Just be aware that reheating frozen waffles may cause them to dry out.

Topping suggestions

This waffle breakfast isn’t complete without some tasty toppings! This quick way to cook waffles is so easy, the only thing you need to worry about is how you’re going to decide which toppings to add! Here are some delicious options:

  • Top with fresh fruit—I love fresh berries such as raspberries, blueberries, strawberries or slices of banana.
  • Drizzle with pure maple syrup. Trust me, get real maple syrup instead of the corn syrup stuff. It tastes amazing and is better for you.
  • Slather on some nut butters like peanut butter or almond butter or get fancy with a chocolate hazelnut spread!  Sometimes we will spread the waffles with a nut butter, then top it with fruit and a drizzle of maple syrup.
  • Chocolate chips also make an excellent topping. And with some coconut whipped cream, you can’t go wrong!
  • Turn it into dessert with a scoop of ice cream! Hot waffles combined with cold and creamy ice cream make for a delectable treat!

What to serve with

These frozen waffles can be served on their own or as a part of a full breakfast.

Chickpea Flour Scramble goes great with waffles. It’s an egg-free scramble that’s also gluten-free and filling!

Who doesn’t love bacon with their waffles? This carrot bacon is smoky and sweet!

Need another on-the-go option? Try these savory muffins or these vegan blackberry muffins.

Which frozen waffles can you air fry?

Any brand or type of waffle can be air fried. Whether it’s Belgian waffles, homestyle, gluten-free waffles, keto, or whole grain. Even mini waffles can be air fried.

Your favorite waffles whether that’s Van’s, Eggo, Birch Benders, Annie’s, O Organics, Kodiak, Good & Gather can all be air fried! The amount of time to cook will vary for different brands but they should all be fairly similar. Keep an eye on them and adjust time accordingly so you don’t end up with burnt waffles or waffles that are still cold.

How long do you cook frozen waffles in air fryer?

This will depend largely on the model of your air fryer but typically it will take 4 or 5 minutes to cook waffles from frozen.

If preheating the air fryer first, it will take less time.

Can you make homemade waffles in the air fryer?

Yes, you will just need a mold! Use a silicone waffle mold and make sure it is one that fits your air fryer.

This pancake recipe works great in a waffle iron or waffle mold if you prefer waffles over pancakes.
