Why make potato wedges in the air fryer

Once you've tried air fried potato wedges, you'll never go back! These crispy spuds are:

Quick to make: The air fryer is the best way to make food crispy in typically half the time it takes in the oven!

Oil-free: No need for oil to achieve a golden color when using an air fryer.

Less mess: no messy oil clean up like a deep fryer would require.

Easy to customize: change up the flavors easily by adding a variety of spices like onion powder, garlic powder, chili powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, cumin, or whatever you're craving that night!

Perfect side: This potato side dish is perfect to accompany any main meal!

    Ingredient notes

You only need a handful of simple ingredients for this easy air fryer potato wedges recipe! For exact measurements, see the printable recipe card below.

Frozen potato wedges—any brand will do! This recipe is specifically for the wedges. If you've got frozen french fries you want to air fry follow this recipe. Want to make this with fresh potato wedges? See the notes in the recipe card below for instructions.

Optional seasonings—add some salt, black pepper, paprika, cumin, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, or whatever your favorite seasonings are! You can also use already pre-seasoned frozen potato wedges.

Favorite dip—what would potato wedges be without a dip or sauce? Ketchup, BBQ sauce, honey mustard, mayo, ranch, hot sauce, all make great options!

What about oil? A lot of people recommend olive oil or avocado oil to help make air fryer potatoes crispy. I haven't found this necessary and find that even a little oil can cause a lot of grease build up in the air fryer oven.

For easy cleanup and to make sure my air fryer works properly for years to come, I don't use any oil. The hot air the circulates in an air fryer is like a mini convection oven that produces crispy edges without a lot of oil and in less time!

How to make frozen potato wedges in the air fryer

This step-by-step tutorial shows the easy process of making frozen potato wedges in the air fryer. For exact times and temperatures, reference the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

If you don't have pre-seasoned potato wedges, start by adding the frozen potato wedges to a large bowl. Toss with seasonings, working quickly to prevent the frozen potato wedges from thawing too much.

Transfer potatoes to the air fryer basket in a single layer, avoiding too much overlap. If needed, work in batches to prevent overcrowding the basket of the air fryer.

    Tips for success

For best results, avoid overcrowding the air fryer basket. If you do, it may take longer for the frozen wedges to cook all the way through and achieve a crispy exterior.

Work quickly when adding the optional seasoning. Have your spices already measured before removing the potato wedges from the freezer to lessen the amount of time that they're exposed to room temperature.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! Follow the same instructions to achieve delicious air fried sweet potato wedges. Add your favorite seasonings the same way and air fry for a similar amount of time.

How to store leftover air fryer frozen potato wedges?

Simply store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a few days. To reheat, toss back in the air fryer for a few minutes.

    How to serve

These crispy air fryer potato wedges make a great side dish to serve with steak, salad, casseroles like this cheesy broccoli rice classic, baked vegan pasta or a hearty shepherd's pie.
